Project Update - June 2026
Upcoming Changes to Traffic Management Layout
The change from phase 2 to phase 3 traffic management is forecast towards the end of May 2026. This involves moving both eastbound and westbound lanes adjacent to the new access into the new carriageway construction, this operation creates space to commence the construction of the retaining wall.
Changes to the two-lane approach to the temporary Silk Mills Roundabout from Silk Mills and Crosskeys are not expected during this phase.
June 2026 Progress
To date CJL Construction have completed phase 1 and are nearing completion of phase 2 of the works. These works include:
- Creation of new access and service diversions to facilitate the eastbound lane widening
- Removal of Silk Mills Roundabout and associated pedestrian islands
- Northern Drainage connection into the existing highway
- Preparation works to facilitate the Retaining Wall construction adjacent to the westbound lanes
- Phase 1 BT openreach diversions near Cross Keys Roundabout
- Gas Main diversion in Backstream field
- Reinforcement of existing Surface Water drainage network
- Basin excavation

Upcoming works
- New kerb installations to the southwest section of Silk Mills Roundabout
- Completion of basin construction
- Commencement of Spine Road construction
- Completion of the compound areas
- Removal of excess subsoil from the earthworks operation
